Who is Dogpoint

Dogpoint is a registered non-profit run by a group of dedicated professionals who understand dogs in need and know how to give them the care they deserve. We've been looking after abandoned and mistreated dogs since 2011, and after years of hands-on experience we decided to build our own shelter in Lhotky near Malotice.

What we do

  • We work to ensure the welfare of the dogs in our care and to prepare them as well as possible for life with a new family. Our professionally trained staff help them shed the frustrations of past bad experiences, or of endless time spent in a kennel. Our task and our mission is to resocialize the dogs and safeguard their mental and physical well-being during their stay in the shelter or in foster care. That also includes the environment in which the dogs wait for their new home.

  • We put great care into choosing the right adopters for our beloved dogs. It matters to us that new owners suit the dog - and that the dog suits them. That's why, before every adoption, we always want to learn a little about you, or arrange a meeting between the dog and its prospective owner. This way we avoid frustration on both sides - dogs being returned to the shelter, or long-term unhappiness.

  • We also want to educate. We're not afraid to talk about difficult topics such as neutering, puppy farming, or giving up dogs over minor problems. We'll gladly teach you how to work with dogs - and not just shelter dogs - and how to train them in a way that leads not to long-term stress, but to better mutual understanding.

What we stand for

  • We provide shelter and care, primarily for stray, abandoned, and abused dogs.

  • We resocialize dogs and prepare them to settle into new families.

  • We find new homes for abandoned dogs.

  • We inform and open up discussion about neutering, and we educate.

  • We raise public awareness of the problem of abandoned animals.

  • We spread general awareness about dog training, upbringing, and behavior.

  • We give students from veterinary and animal-ethology programs a chance to gain experience, and help the public get to know dogs in a broader context.

Which dogs you'll find here

  • Dogs from owners who could no longer care for them (after signing an agreement transferring the dog into Dogpoint's care).

  • Unwanted puppies (after signing an agreement transferring the dog into Dogpoint's care).

  • Dogs from puppy mills.

  • Strays from our catchment area and partner municipalities.

That said, we don't always have suitable conditions to take in certain animals (very seriously ill or aggressive dogs), or our capacity simply won't allow it, so in such cases we reserve the right not to accept an animal from private individuals or from municipalities we have no agreement with. For similar reasons, we have stopped taking in animals from other countries.
