ADOPTION INFORMATION
If you've taken a liking to one of our dogs, come and meet them with no obligation. Take the dog for a walk and get to know them in person, better than any photo can show. During your visit we'll fill you in on the dog's story (if we know it), describe their behavior and, really, everything within our power.
What to keep in mind before adopting
A dog, although a domesticated animal fully used to living alongside people, is still an animal, and its behavior can differ in different environments and with different people. Just like us, dogs get used to a new place and new people and learn the routine and dynamics of the environment they live in. This takes each individual a different amount of time, and the path to a great life together can sometimes be bumpy. We do our best to get to know each dog and describe the behavior we observe - including the negative. We're not trying to put you off; we want you to have all the available information so you can think your decision through carefully. #AdoptionMakesSense when it's well considered.
WHAT YOU NEED TO ADOPT
Be over 18 (bring your ID)
Be the direct applicant and also the future caregiver of the animal. We don't hand over animals as a gift/surprise for a third person.
Be a citizen of the Czech or Slovak Republic
Adoption fee (CZK 700 for an adult dog, CZK 1,000 for a puppy)
A collar, leash, transport crate… (in general = equipment for safely bringing the dog home to you)
Agreement to future neutering (does not apply to strays)
STEP BY STEP, PAW BY PAW
Have you chosen a dog? Get in touch with us. You can email info@dog-point.cz, use the contact form, call us directly at +420 607 018 218, or come meet us in person at the shelter (a mere Facebook comment can't be taken as serious interest in a dog).
Tell us about yourself. Filling in the questionnaire takes a little over 6 minutes. It matters to us that our dogs find the very best friend in you — and choosing a reliable companion is no small thing.
Call us at +420 607 018 218 (please don't text) to let us know when it would suit you to visit the dog you've chosen and get acquainted with them (and us) in person. Alternatively, we'll reply to the questionnaire you've sent to arrange a visit time. If you already have another dog at home, we recommend bringing them along — this applies especially to adopting an adult dog. If you're planning to come meet a dog, we really do need to know in advance so the dog is present at the shelter (they may be at a promotional event or out with our walkers).
After the visit, let us know whether you're still interested. Some dogs can go home with you right away; for others we'll ask for several visits, or at least that you take your time and think the adoption through carefully.
When it comes to adopting puppies, we give preference to applicants who have suitable conditions for a puppy and can also collect it as soon as possible after the adoption date set by the shelter. Interest in puppies has been enormous lately, so please bear in mind that dozens of other applicants may be interested in the same puppy as you.
THERE'S NO NEED TO FEAR ADOPTION
We hand dogs over vaccinated (with a valid vaccination record), dewormed, microchipped, and in the best possible health the situation allows.
If you run into any problems or have any questions, you can contact us at any time and we'll be glad to help. Our interest in the dog doesn't end with the adoption — we offer you ongoing support and help. We're here for training, resocialization, and getting through your new companion's stresses together.
WHAT WE HAVE TO POINT OUT
Every dog's description is based on our experience with that dog in our environment. The behavior described may change depending on the owner's approach and the environment in which the dog is kept.
After bad experiences, we no longer reserve dogs. If a suitable applicant comes along, we won't hesitate to send the dog off to its new life.
We have a poor signal at the shelter — if you can't reach us, please try again in a little while.
For questions about dogs and adoptions, please call only between 8:00 and 18:00.
Adoption applications (and dog visits) are handled exclusively by the shelter manager. We can't take account of text messages, comments, or messages on social media.
