Anthrax is a pedigree American Staffordshire Terrier. He's exactly what you picture when you hear 'staffie' — devoted, cuddly, strong and proud, a dog who attaches himself to his person with his whole heart. He's friendly with people, handling is no problem, and he loves contact and human attention. He's exemplary in his kennel — no destruction, no barking, and he's house-trained. He's used to living indoors — he is not a backyard guard dog!

He's used to children, but because of his handicap we recommend him for older kids who'll give him the calm and respect he needs. Anthrax suffers from KCS — keratoconjunctivitis sicca — which means he doesn't produce tears. Care means regular eye drops (which he takes without any fuss), but it's a lifelong routine. Because of his weaker eyesight he's less confident reacting to stimuli — for example, when he hears other dogs but can't see them, he can get unsure and overreact.

Anthrax can't stand other dogs or cats; he needs to be an only pet. His ideal home would be a family house with a garden to potter in — stairs are still a problem for him. If you're looking for a loyal, calm dog for a one-pet household, someone to share your sofa and a bit of garden with, Anthrax will be your shadow. He needs a person who'll give him understanding and patience, with experience of the breed.
