Virtual adoption is a programme for dogs with very low chances of finding a new home. Often they're dogs who have been at the shelter for many years, or whose nature and history mean the safest option for everyone is for them to stay living at the shelter, where they have everything they need. We also include seriously ill dogs in the programme.
Become Kulda's patron and he'll send you little updates about how he's doing and what he's up to. Your gifts pay for Kulda's food, vet care, medication, bedding, repairs to his outdoor room, cleaning — and the caretakers who'd do anything for him.
Given how long he's been at the shelter (since 2018) and his very low chances of finding a new home, the shelter has become his home. Kulda is 8 now and happens to look like a Polish Hound cross (or a Ridgeback × Shepherd — he could be a mix of anything). In all those years, though, he still hasn't worked out that he's a dog — let alone a big dog. He's a defenceless baby in a dog's body, desperately looking for someone to lean on and protect him. Plenty of things startle him and plenty scare him — but with a calm, steady person beside him, that's exactly who he runs to hide behind. It comes from having seen so little of life; he's still discovering the world. Sit down next to him and he'll spend most of the time glued to you, body to body — that's his safety.
Kulda won't be the dog you take through obedience trials, but he will be the dog who — once you're his anchor — becomes your faithful companion, always at your side. He has his quirks, though!
Update to Kulda's profile: In the year he's been with us, Kulda has come out of his shell a lot. He's still a baby — just one that can throw tantrums now. He's very friendly, a welcoming type. Problems arise when he's stressed or under pressure: in some situations, due to displacement behaviour, he's capable of biting. He dislikes being treated or restrained. For these reasons we can't recommend Kulda for homes with children, other animals and the like.
Update II: Kulda has made progress again — he'll accept a muzzle, tolerates light treatment (vaccination), can ride in a car, and with rewards and the right guidance he enjoys learning new skills. Even so, a 'kennel' lifestyle outside the big city would definitely suit him best.
He still needs security and love — and he'd wish for a capable owner who can handle him when needed and won't be scared off by his not-so-small quirks.
