Tery

A senior canine lady recovering from a slipped disc.

Tery is now a 12-year-old Alpine Dachsbracke female. In February 2024 she suffered a slipped disc and became completely paralysed in her hind legs. Her original owner decided against surgery, gave her up, and handed her over to the Petmedic veterinary rescue service — they decided to fight for her, and that's how Tery came into our care. The operation went well, and Tery began rehabilitation at Physiodog Prague. Together with her carers she trained like a champion; all the hard work paid off, and today Tery runs around and enjoys life to the fullest — she's a genuinely cheerful dog.

Tery is very friendly with people and appreciates every stroke. We haven't tested her with children, but given her health we can't recommend her to families with small kids. She handles everyday care (paw wiping, lifting, brushing) without any problem; for bigger procedures, including the vet's, it's wise to use a muzzle — injections scare her and she may try to snap.

She's mostly friendly with unfamiliar dogs, though very boisterous ones frighten her, and then she growls and barks. As for other animals: she's a big hunter and won't tolerate cats in the household.

For a treat she'll happily do somersaults; she knows the basic commands, though she doesn't always perform them 100%. She walks tidily on a lead.

Tery loves lying on the couch, so when she's home alone it's best to make sure she can't fall off (she's used to her little crate). She destroys nothing at home and doesn't bark when alone — she only greets her human joyfully on arrival.

Tery would appreciate a house with garden access where she can explore and sunbathe; she shouldn't climb stairs, as that could cause another disc injury.

Tery currently attends rehabilitation once a month — a frequency recommended for life.
